Niamh McCarthy, 18, who is running as a parliamentary candidate in Wavertree.

An 18-year-old from Old Swan is to stand as an independent candidate in the General Election in Wavertree.

Niamh McCarthy was involved in the Young Everyman Playhouse production Until they Kick Us Out, which is about young people’s involvement in democracy.

The cast were inspired to get involved in politics and started the Really Sound Party after finding out while writing the play how easy it was to start a political party.
